The Nigerian Senate has approved two major tax reform bills designed to modernize the nation’s tax administration and enhance revenue collection and distribution across federal, state, and local governments.
The bills—the Federal Inland Revenue Service (Establishment) Repeal Bill and the Joint Revenue Board (Establishment) Bill 2025, which incorporates the Nigeria Revenue Service Bill 2025—were passed following deliberations in the Committee of the Whole and a third reading on the Senate floor.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio hailed the development as a critical milestone in overhauling Nigeria’s fiscal system, stating the reforms would significantly strengthen governance and revolutionize the country’s tax framework.
