The Senate has pledged to intervene in the ongoing industrial dispute between the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and the Federal Government, expressing concern over the government’s continued failure to meet the union’s demands.
Chairman of the Senate Committee on Tertiary Institutions and TETFund, Senator Aliyu Dandutse, made this known after a closed-door meeting with the leadership of ASUU. He described the situation as unacceptable and assured that the Senate would immediately begin a negotiation process involving all key stakeholders to find a lasting solution to the crisis.
During the meeting, ASUU urged the Federal Government to prioritize improved funding for public universities, warning that sustainable investment in education remains the only way to end recurring strikes and enhance the global ranking of Nigerian universities.
