The Senate has given Enyinnaya Abaribe one week to reconsider his defection to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), stating that his explanation for leaving the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) is not justified under constitutional provisions.
Abaribe, who was the only senator elected on the platform of APGA, had informed the Senate of his decision to defect to the ADC, claiming he was sacked by his party.
However, the Senate maintained that the reason provided is not recognised by the constitution as a valid ground for defection.
Meanwhile, eight other senators also notified the Senate of their defection to the ADC from the Labour Party and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Those who moved from the Labour Party are Victor Umeh, Tony Nwoye and Ireti Kingibe.
Five others — Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, Binos Yaroe, Lawal Adamu Usman, Mohammed Ogoshi Onawo and Augustine Akobundu — resigned from the PDP to join the ADC.
