The Senate is set to screen Professor Joash Amupitan, the nominee of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the position of Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), on Thursday.
The nomination of Prof. Amupitan follows the expiration of the tenure of the immediate past INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu. The screening exercise is expected to take place during Thursday’s plenary session, where senators will assess Amupitan’s qualifications, experience, and vision for strengthening Nigeria’s electoral process.
Prof. Joash Amupitan, a seasoned legal scholar and professor of law, was nominated by President Tinubu earlier this month to lead the electoral body. His appointment, if confirmed, will position him to oversee the conduct of future elections and reforms aimed at enhancing transparency and credibility in the nation’s electoral system.
