The Senator representing Abia South Senatorial Zone, Eyinnaya Abaribe, has officially resigned from the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Abaribe announced his defection on Wednesday at the Nike Lake Resort in Enugu, where he appeared alongside the former Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 general election, Mr Peter Obi, who also formally joined the ADC.

Addressing the gathering, the lawmaker disclosed that he tendered his resignation from APGA earlier in the day, bringing an end to his two-year stay in the party.

Abaribe had joined APGA in 2023 after leaving his former political platform to contest and secure the Abia South senatorial seat.

His defection adds to the growing wave of political realignments ahead of future electoral contests, particularly in the South-East geopolitical zone.
