A security personnel at the Ignatius Ajuru University of Education in Obio/Akpor, Rivers State, identified as Mgbechi Wekwea has been accused of abducting and raping a 16-year- old minor.

Mother of the victim, Edwin Kindness disclosed this in a chat with Journalists, yesterday.

She alleged that the accused in company of some boys, abducted her daughter at gunpoint in front of her workplace at Aluu, before taking her to Emuoha, where she was raped.

She said he had threatened to kill her, for rejecting his marriage proposal and blamed her daughter of being the reason.

Mrs. Kindness noted that the matter was reported to the police, after her daughter was released. She said the accused has been boasting that nothing will happen because he is highly connected.

Meanwhile, a human right group, Centre for Basic Rights Protection and Accountability Campaign has called on the university to hand the suspect over to the police for investigation.

Vice Chancellor of the University, Ozo-Mekuri Ndimele while reacting to the incident, said no student or staff of the institution can be arrested without the permission of the school’s management.
