President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has earmarked over ₦11.4 trillion for security, education, and health in the proposed 2026 Federal Budget, underscoring his administration’s focus on national security and human capital development.
In the budget presentation on Friday, Tinubu disclosed that ₦5.41 trillion was allocated to defence and security, ₦3.52 trillion to education, and ₦2.48 trillion to health.
The President said security remains the foundation of development, announcing plans to modernise the armed forces, strengthen intelligence-driven policing, enhance border surveillance, and implement a new national counter-terrorism doctrine.
He warned that all armed groups operating outside state authority would be treated as terrorists, vowing that bandits, kidnappers, militias, and violent criminal networks would be decisively confronted.
On education, Tinubu highlighted the expansion of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, noting that over 788,000 students across 229 tertiary institutions have benefited.
He added that healthcare spending accounts for six per cent of the total budget, while recent engagements with the United States government have opened access to over $500 million for health interventions in Nigeria.
The President said infrastructure, agriculture, and procurement reforms would also drive productivity, create jobs, and support local industries under the government’s Nigeria First Policy
