Chairman of Etche Local Government Area Hon. Chima Boniface Njoku, has confirmed the arrest of several suspects linked to the killing of two persons and the injury of another in Umuakonu Community, Igbo-Etche.
According to a statement issued on Friday, the suspects were apprehended in a joint operation by the Nigeria Police Force, supported by the Etche Local Government Anti-Land Grabbing Committee led by Hon. Emma Nwaobilor.
Among those arrested is the Ochemba of Chokota Community, Eze Elijah Okere, along with his alleged accomplices. They are accused of involvement in the recent killings and a series of land-grabbing activities that have heightened tension and unrest in Chokota and surrounding communities.
Chairman Njoku condemned the killings and the illegal seizure of land, describing them as serious threats to peace and development in Etche. He warned that no individual, irrespective of status or traditional title, would be spared if found complicit in acts capable of destabilizing the area.
The council boss commended the Anti-Land Grabbing Committee for its swift intervention and urged the police to carry out a thorough and transparent investigation to ensure justice for the victims.
Njoku also appealed to community leaders, youths, and residents to embrace peace and cooperate with government efforts aimed at curbing land-related violence and insecurity across Etche Local Government Area.
