The immediate past Chairman of Ikwerre Local Government Area, Hon. Samuel Nwanosike has condemned the burning of the council secretariat by suspected thugs
Nwanosike in a statement shortly after the incident, called on security agencies to carryout a thorough investigation and ensure perpetrators are brought to book.
He said, “I strongly condemn the burning of the Ikwerre Local Government Area by unknown gunmen, who are clearly executing a plan that must be thoroughly investigated by the security agencies in the state.
Following the withdrawal of police officers from the council secretariat, some unidentified individuals entered the premises in the early hours of today. They fired sporadically to intimidate people and then detonated explosives at the front of the council building.
At the close of work today, Israel Abosi led his thugs to supervise the damage he has orchestrated with his amama soldiers.
I have informed the security agencies and urge them to take swift action to restore order in the LGA and prevent further breakdowns of law and order.
This incident is disturbingly similar to the attack on the Rivers State House of Assembly on October 30th, 2023, where unidentified individuals set the complex ablaze. The police have yet to disclose those responsible for that attack, and now we must also uncover the culprits behind the destruction of the Ikwerre Local Government council secretariat.
