The Rivers State Government has directed state owned tertiary institutions to begin lectures online. This is to enable them conclude the current academic session and resume for the next one.
Commissioner for Education, Prof Kaniye Ebeku, made this known after a meeting with Vice Chancellors of various institutions in the state.
Prof. Ebeku stated that E-learning will give room for students/lecturers interaction, and equally allow for assessment and examination. He warned that the online learning does not in anyway mean that students and lecturers can return to the classrooms.
Prof. Chike who urged schools to welcome the initiative, warned them not to go against the directives of the Federal Ministry of Education and the state government.
Meanwhile some stakeholders have kicked against the move, arguing that some institutions and students do not have the necessary facilities required for E-learning.
