Governor Nyesom Wike has ordered the removal of Almajiris and other vagrants to their respective states. This is to primarily decongest the state and help curb the spread of the COVID-19.
The Governor made this known in a state-wide broadcast yesterday at the Government House Port Harcourt. He directed the commissioner of social welfare to ensure the directive is carried out to the latter.
Gov. Wike accused security operatives of endangering the lives of Rivers people by allowing people into the state. He noted that the taskforce to oversee the effective closure of the borders will be inaugurated today.
Wike furthermore more announced a total lockdown of some areas in Obio Akpor and Port Harcourt Local Government Areas. These areas are Rumuomasi, Rumuobiakani, Elekahia and stadium Road.
He said the rise in the index cases in the state is as a result of disobedience of laid down directives by some persons.
He assured the people of more palliative measures by his administration to help cushion the effect of the lockdown. Residents should desist from flouting government directives, as it carries dire consequences, he warned.
