The Rivers State Government has demolished Prodest and Etemeteh hotels in Eleme and Onne respectively. This is for violating the state government’s directive on the closure of all businesses in the state owing to COVID-19.
The Governor who personally monitored the demolition, had in a broadcast few days ago warned that any hotel found operating, would be brought down and sealed by the state.
He had also imposed a total lockdown on Obio-Akpor and Port Harcourt City Local Government Areas in his effort to curb the spread of COVID-19 pandemic in Rivers state.
Meanwhile, some lawyers have criticised Governor Wike’s actions, saying he lacks such powers. They said, only a court of competent jurisdiction can give him the go ahead, without which he is not permitted to demolish or take-over people’s properties.
