Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has constituted a taskforce made up of security personnel to enforce the wearing of face masks in the state.
The governor who disclosed this in a state-wide broadcast yesterday said, it is worrisome that residents are going about their normal businesses without putting on face masks and observing other COVID-19 protocols.
Wike called on residents to be careful with friends and family members coming in from states with high cases of the virus, while emphasising the need for such persons to self isolate for 14 days.
He said measures are ongoing to decontaminate schools, markets and other public places ahead of their reopening. Wike, furthermore assured residents that his administration is doing everything within its power to curb the spread of the pandemic in the state.
