The Rivers State Government has announced that borehole drillers and owners are to register with the state government. This is to ensure that what is served rivers people as water, is of high standard.
The state Commissioner for Water Resources and Rural Development, Dr. Tamunosisi Gogo Jaja made this known when he unveiled the official website of the ministry, “rivtamisriverstate.gov.ng” to journalists yesterday. He said the essence of the website is to monitor activities of persons, illegally manufacturing sachet water and drilling of boreholes in the state.
Jaja said the ministry is out to ensure that water served Rivers residents are of high quality standard, clean, fresh and safe for people to consume.
Dr. Tamunosisi stated that water manufacturers, drillers and owners of boreholes who fail to register with the ministry after two months, will be prosecuted. He also emphasised that registration is free.
