The Association of Resident Doctors at the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital, says over 5 medical doctors have faced various verbal and physical assault from patients and their relatives, this year alone.
President of the Association, Dr. David made this known while condemning the beating of a female doctor by relatives of a patient, few days ago.
According to him, the Doctor was brutally assaulted to the level of unconsciousness.
He said despite the lack of manpower and the prevailing welfare issues health workers face, they still put it their best to save lives, adding that they should not be made to go through such vices.
Dr. David explained that the association will no longer tolerate any form of assault on its members, and called for improved and harmonious relationship between health workers and patients.
He, furthermore, said steps will be taken to ensure the safety of its members, as a conducive environment is needed for effective service delivery.
