The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Council of Rivers State University, Hon. Okey Wali, SAN, has called on student leaders to see unionism as a platform for developing leadership skills, responsibility, and service.
Wali made the appeal during a meeting with the leadership of the Postgraduate Students Association (PGSA) and the Student Union Government (SUG) at the University’s Council Chamber on September 26, 2025. He commended both the University Management and the student bodies for sustaining peace and constructive engagement, and urged continued cooperation with the administration.
The Pro-Chancellor reaffirmed that all ongoing initiatives are targeted at enhancing students’ welfare and development.
In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Isaac Zeb-Obipi, lauded the students for their peaceful conduct and acknowledged their contributions to the University’s growth, particularly through legacy projects undertaken by student groups.
Leaders of the PGSA and SUG congratulated Hon. Wali on his appointment as Pro-Chancellor and expressed appreciation to Prof. Zeb-Obipi for the improvements on campus, citing better electricity supply, improved hostel security, timely release of results, and increased support for student leaders.
