Students of the Rivers State University (RSU) Emohua Campus have urged the institution’s management to relocate them from the facility, citing rising insecurity and frequent armed robbery attacks.
The students staged a peaceful protest in Emohua on Wednesday, expressing frustration over what they described as incessant robbery incidents on their lodges. They alleged that criminals routinely invade their lodges dispossessing them of valuables, with no adequate security presence to protect them.
The latest attack, which occurred on Tuesday night, reportedly resulted in a student being stabbed after attempting to resist the robbers. The incident triggered Wednesday’s demonstration, as students insisted that their safety can no longer be guaranteed.
As of the time of filing this report, the RSU management had yet to issue an official reaction to the incident.
