The Rivers State Police Command says it has set-up a commission of enquiry to investigate the heinous crimes allegedly committed by officers of the disbanded SARS unit in the state.
The State Commissioner of Police, Joseph Mukan who made this known while addressing protesters at the force headquarters in Port Harcourt, called on members of the public to step forward and testify.
Mukan who stated that the dreaded SARS “is gone and gone for good” said the new Police outfit when formed by the Inspector General of Police will not act like the disbanded unit.
Mukan saluted the youths for carrying out the protest in a peaceful manner as he noted that they are not criminals but responsible Nigerians.
He also assured the protesters that the command will ensure that officers found guilty of human rights abuses are brought to justice.
