The Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC), has reacted to rumors making the rounds that it shifted the date for conduct of primaries, to favor the People’s Democratic Party.
Chairman of the commission, Retd. Justice George Omereji in a meeting with traditional rulers yesterday, said RSIEC, did not extend the date for the conduct of primaries.
He said the commission only granted the request of the PDP and the People’s Redemption Party (PRP), to give them more time to conduct their primaries, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Omereji also noted that the list of 18 participating political parties was sent to them by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
He furthermore, urged traditional rulers to help in ensuring that the forthcoming local government election is violence free, with high rate of turnout.
