The Commissioner for Administration and Legal Matters at the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC), Professor Chidi Halliday, has dismissed allegations that results of the forthcoming local government elections were predetermined before the release of the revised timetable.

Halliday made the clarification at a Town Hall meeting organised by the Rivers Peace Initiative, where convener Obinna Egbogidi said the programme was designed to foster peace and inclusiveness ahead of the polls. .

Meanwhile, RSIEC Chairman, Michael Odey, announced that the names of aspirants cleared to contest in the August 30 elections will be published soon. He disclosed this when the House of Representatives Ad-hoc Committee on Emergency Rule Implementation visited the commission.

Committee Chairman, Professor Julius Ihonvbere, advised RSIEC to work closely with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and other critical stakeholders to ensure the credibility of the electoral process.
