The Rivers State Commissioner for Special Duties, Emeka Onowu, has said that there may be no more shanties at Abonema Wharf by Monday.
Onowu, made this known while reacting to the fire incident at the Wharf on Friday.
According to him, the recent fire was not the first, second or third at the Wharf, noting that Friday’s own was the worst.
He stated that the massive fire showed that something fishy was going on in the area.
“If the government comes to demolish it, people will start saying a governor is a wicked man. This is a tank farm and an explosion came,” he said.
“Where you have a tank farm, do you expect people to be cooking or lighting fire around that area? These are the causes of this fire because either they are using gas, firewood, or light.
“But this is not the first time that this first, second, or third time this is happening here. But this is the worst. And by Monday I don’t think we are going to have any shanty here again,” he added.
