The Rivers state government says the amended local government law by the state Assembly which elongates the tenure of local government chairmen will not take effect in the tenure of the current council chairmen.
Commissioner for information and communications; Joe Johnson made this known in a statement few days ago.
According to him, the local government council elections will hold adding that there was still time, as the tenure of the current chairmen ends in June 2024.
He also reiterated that the state governor, Sim Fubara will not do anything unconstitutional.
