The Rivers State Government has issued a formal query to the Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Port Harcourt Branch, Cordelia Eke, over her involvement in a joint statement that criticized the state’s Sole Administrator, retired Vice-Admiral Ibok Ete-Ibas.
The statement, signed by chairmen of the eight NBA branches in Rivers State, accused Ete-Ibas of exceeding his mandate and violating the rule of law. The chairmen urged President Bola Tinubu and the National Assembly to intervene and ensure the Sole Administrator adheres to the terms of his appointment to prevent further political instability in the state.
The query, dated and signed by Director of Administration Ebiriemg Deresima on behalf of the Solicitor-General and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Justice, warned that Eke could face disciplinary action, including possible dismissal, for her role in the statement.
