Rivers State government has procured and distributed consumable chemicals, Science practical equipments and other materials to all public senior secondary schools in the state for use in laboratories to aid students understanding of science subjects.
Flagging off the distribution of the materials at the premises of the Rivers State Senior Secondary schools Board headquarters at Emekukwu Street, D/Line Port Harcourt, the Commissioner for Education Dr. Ovy Chinedum Chukwuma said the materials are strictly for the use of the students for learning and for external examinations.
Dr.Chukwuma said the sacrifice of procuring the materials is to encourage teachers to teach better and the students to understand the practicals involved in their subjects to make education in the state the best among other states.
The State Education Boss passionately appealed to teachers to put in their best in impacting quality education to students assuring them that his ministry will put in place a reward system for teachers and ministry staff who distinguished themselves in their places of work.
Earlier in his welcome adress, the acting chairman of the board, Elder Ikechi Godspower Nwogu said the materials which cost over a hundred and eighty million naira, will help the students immensely in their studies and external examinations.
He thanked the Governor, His Excellency Sir Siminalayi Fubara GSSRS for releasing funds for the materials and also thanked him for the appointment of teachers as Permanent Secretaries and improving the standard of education in the state.
Items distributed for pyhsics, chemistry and biology laboratories includes plasticine, convex mirrors, convex lens, Concave mirrors, spring balances, retort clamp Stands, vernier calipers, micrometer screws, thermometers skeletons, forceps, volumetric flask, boiling tubes, tripod stands among others.
