The Rivers State Government is sponsoring the free registration of students in all government schools for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), as part of its continued investment in education under Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
This commitment was highlighted by the Secretary to the Rivers State Government (SSG), Dr. Benibo Anabraba, on Wednesday while receiving the Deputy Registrar and Zonal Coordinator of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), Mr. Ayanfemi Adeniran-Amusan, in Port Harcourt.
Dr. Anabraba said Governor Fubara remains resolute in expanding access to quality education across the state, noting that Rivers students consistently rank among the highest performers in WAEC examinations.
He further disclosed that the governor has approved the establishment of Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres across the three senatorial districts and all 23 local government areas to enhance digital learning and improve examination readiness.
According to him, arrangements are in top gear to ensure both mega and mini CBT centres are completed in line with WAEC timelines. The SSG also informed WAEC of the state government’s willingness to provide land for the council’s zonal office.
In his response, WAEC’s Zonal Coordinator, Mr. Adeniran-Amusan, expressed readiness to strengthen collaboration with the state to advance educational development. The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Lands, Mr. Alozie Nwala, was also in attendance
