The Rivers State Government has announced Tuesday, December 23, 2025, as the official date for the launch of the 2026 Emblem Appeal Fund.

The Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Benibo Anabraba, disclosed this during a planning meeting held in Port Harcourt. According to him, the event will take place at the Government House Banquet Hall and is scheduled to commence at 9:00 a.m.

Dr. Anabraba stated that Governor Siminalayi Fubara will serve as the Chief Host and Special Guest of Honour at the ceremony.

He appealed to members of the private sector and well-meaning individuals to support the fund, noting that it remains a crucial source of assistance for military veterans and the families of fallen heroes.

The SSG also announced that activities marking the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day will hold on January 15, 2026, featuring the traditional wreath-laying ceremony at the Isaac Boro Park Cenotaph in Port Harcourt.

Emphasising the importance of collective responsibility, Dr. Anabraba said the nation owes a duty of care to men and women who served in the armed forces and defended the country. He added that many veterans are now advanced in age and depend on societal support for their wellbeing.
