The Rivers State Government has formally integrated menstrual health education into the curriculum of secondary schools across the state.
The Director of Quality Assurance at the Ministry of Education, Dr. Chinedu Nwaodu, announced the development over the weekend in Port Harcourt during the unveiling of a new book titled Periods, Pads and Proud.
Dr. Nwaodu said all secondary schools in the state have been equipped with facilities to support the teaching of menstrual health, stressing that the initiative would help both teachers and parents guide young girls on its importance.
“As for the schools, it’s there in the curriculum, it’s there in the scheme of work,” she stated, urging principals and teachers at both junior and senior secondary levels to ensure proper implementation. She further advised parents, teachers, and students to take menstrual health seriously as part of overall education.
