Port Harcourt, Nigeria – Tragedy struck in the Rumuagholu area of Port Harcourt on Tuesday when a Rottweiler attacked and killed a young schoolboy at a school owned by the Assemblies of God Church.
According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred after the gatekeeper of a private residence opened the gate, allowing the dog to escape. The unleashed Rottweiler ran directly into the unfenced school premises, where it fatally mauled a pupil. The dog then attacked another child, severely injuring her before a mobile police officer (Mopol) intervened and shot the animal dead.
The injured child is currently receiving treatment at Spring Rose Hospital on Rumuagholu Road. Meanwhile, police have arrested the gatekeeper of the residence where the dog was kept.
Authorities have yet to release an official statement, but the incident has sparked outrage and raised concerns over pet security and public safety in the area.
