Residents of Port Harcourt, Obio/Akpor, and nearby communities are set to benefit from a new waste collection system scheduled to commence in May 2026.
The Managing Director of the Rivers State Waste Management Agency, Dr Ibimina Wokoma, disclosed that private operators will be contracted to handle refuse evacuation, supported by modern technology to improve efficiency.
He urged residents to comply with the approved waste disposal schedules and encouraged them to channel complaints directly to the agency, rather than using social media platforms. Wokoma also revealed that construction of a new dumpsite, which will replace the existing facility along Obiri-Kwere Airport Road, is nearing completion
