The Rivers State Waste Management Agency (RIWAMA) has inaugurated a special enforcement team comprising representatives from communities in Port Harcourt City and Obio-Akpor LGAs in a bid to maintain cleanliness across Port Harcourt City and its environs.
Special Assistant on Electronic Media to Hon Prince Obi Ohia, made this known in a statement.
According to him, Ohia, emphasized the importance of the new team in restoring Port Harcourt to its status as the “Garden City” while Inaugurating them in his office on Tuesday.
He expressed confidence that the selected members are well-suited to partner in this initiative.
“We have developed a model and strategy aimed at addressing the issue of indiscriminate waste disposal in Obio-Akpor and Port Harcourt City,” Ohia stated.
He urged team members to ensure their communities remain clean and tidy.
To facilitate this effort, Ohia announced designated waste dumping hours from 6 PM to 10 PM, allowing for organized waste evacuation by service providers.
He encouraged community members to act as whistle blowers and report violators through the agency’s hotline, enabling swift action against offenders.
