The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State has declared that it will retire former Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Amaechi, and former Governor, Celestine Omehia, from active politics by 2027.
The declaration was made by the Director-General of the Ikwerre APC Campaign Organisation for the August 30 council elections, Obinna Ekem, during the party’s campaign rally grand finale in Omagwa community on Sunday.
Ekem said the party was confident of sweeping all 13 wards in the LGA in the forthcoming local government elections, citing assurances from residents of overwhelming support for the APC.
He added that while the immediate focus was victory at the council polls, the Ikwerre APC was already mobilising for the 2027 general elections, pledging total support for President Bola Tinubu against the opposition alliance being championed by Amaechi and Omehia.
According to him, Ikwerre remained a stronghold of the ruling party despite being home to both opposition leaders.
