Students sitting for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) were forced to write their papers under challenging conditions on Tuesday night following a widespread power outage.
At Community Secondary School, Rumuolumeni, in Rivers State, candidates reportedly wrote the English Language paper late into the night after the exam materials arrived behind schedule. One student, who spoke under the condition of anonymity, said they relied on generators to provide lighting during the exam.
Similar scenes were captured in videos trending on social media, showing students in other parts of the country using lanterns and phone flashlights to complete their papers, raising concerns about the impact of the blackout on the integrity and fairness of the examination process.
