Miss Rita Ogechukwu, the Welfare Secretary of the Student Union Government, Rivers State University, who recently presented an award to her boyfriend, Wisdom Eke for his love, care and support has apologised for her action.
The young comrade, who was criticized for the act a fortnight ago, in a letter regretted the embarssment her actions might have caused and assured that such would never happen again.
Her statement reads,
Dear Friends,
In the past 24hrs I have received numerous calls, messages and online tags from both friends, family members, colleagues and well wishers as a result of an award presentation I made in course of the 2021 SUG WELFARE WEEK.
On the 22nd of October, 2021 as part of my commitment to render quality service in my capacity as Welfare Secretary, we carried out the * First Ever SUG WELFARE WEEK, With the theme – The Student , The Future Hope -* the event was intended to Raise awareness as regards the Welfare of students and also recognise and award deserving individuals and organisations for their immersed support to the promotion of students welfare in our great Institution.
In course of that program, Some Dignitaries and individuals were recognized and awarded and amongst the recipients of the awards was Mr. Wisdom Eke, a Student of our great Institution.
The Award to Mr. Wisdom Eke have been met with much criticism, one which I have come to admit and see reason with as I regret my poor choice of words
I admit that in my naive attempt to express my heartfelt appreciation to him for his enormous support towards me, I allowed my emotions take a better part. This I regret greatly.
I regret every embarrassment my action might have caused the Student Union Government and our Great Institution which promotes excellence and creativity.
As a student, and as a young Leader, I consider the episode as a learning curve for me and I believe most of the criticisms are coming from a place of sincere love and concern for me. This I appreciate greatly.
I promise that going forward, I’d do better in discharging my duties as official as possible whilst keeping away personal business from official activities.
I want to sincerely thank everyone who have reached out to me in one way or the other, in course of these whole episodes.
Thank you and God Bless You
Obiano Rita Ogechukwu Janefrancis. Welfare Secretary SUG, RSU..
