Rivers United secured a 2–0 victory over Citibois FC of Yenagoa in a club friendly played at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium.
After a goalless first half, Rivio Ayemwenre broke the deadlock seven minutes into the second half, finishing off a fine pass from David Benjamin. Handsome Surveyor sealed the win midway through the half, converting an assist from Ayemwenre to make it 2–0.
The win comes as a morale boost for Rivers United ahead of their Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) fixture against Bayelsa United. The match is scheduled for Sunday, October 12, at 4 p.m., with Rivers United hosting their rivals in Port Harcourt.
