PORT HARCOURT – The Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers has vowed to finance the upcoming Local Government Council elections on August 9, 2025, if the state government is unable to do so due to a shortfall in federal allocation.
Speaking at a stakeholders’ meeting organized by the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) in Port Harcourt, the council’s chairman, HRM Eze Chike Worlu Wodo, represented by HRH Barr. (Surv.) Tubotamuno Asifamabia Dick-Jaw III, commended RSIEC’s preparations for the polls. He emphasized the importance of a functional local government system and reaffirmed the council’s commitment to grassroots democracy.
The traditional rulers pledged full support for the electoral process and announced plans to launch a fundraising initiative to cover election expenses if necessary. Their intervention aims to prevent any disruptions to the democratic process at the local level.
RSIEC Chairman, Hon. Justice Adolphus Enebeli (Rtd), also assured stakeholders of the commission’s dedication to conducting a credible, free, and fair election.
