The Rivers State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) has raised concern over increasing cases of theft and destruction in public schools across the state.
Chairman of the board, Sam Ogeh, who monitored schools as they resumed for the new academic session, described the situation as disheartening and vowed to clamp down on vandals to safeguard school facilities.
Ogeh also acknowledged a shortage of teachers in some schools and assured that urgent measures would be taken to address the deficit.
During his visit to Government Comprehensive Secondary School, Borokiri, the SUBEB chairman ordered the immediate transfer of some teachers for absenteeism. He further issued a seven-day quit notice to retired staff and teachers still occupying government quarters, warning that defaulters risk forceful eviction.
