Some military officers and suspected hoodlums engaged in a fight at the Ikokwu junction axis of Port Harcourt, today.

Eyewitnesses say the hoodlums were extorting traders, when the military officers stationed in the area, arrested and beat up some of them.

A trader at the junction, said the incident angered the boys who reinforced and attacked the officers.

She said the officers shot sporadically in the air to scare them, and later burnt shops and properties around.

She also said the incident caused panic in the area, as traders and motorists scampered for safety.

The source confirmed that scores sustained injuries while running to avoid been hit by stray bullets.
