Rivers State has recorded 1,137 new HIV-positive cases between January and March 2026, according to the latest data from the National Data Repository. The figures place the state fourth nationally in the number of newly diagnosed HIV patients during the period.
Nationally, Lagos State recorded the highest number of new HIV cases with 2,298, followed by Benue with 1,949 and Akwa Ibom with 1,159 cases.
Other top states include Anambra (1,013), Kaduna (842), and Delta (803). The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) reported 579 new cases, while Kano State recorded 476 cases.
At the lower end of the spectrum, Yobe State had 100 new cases, Sokoto 110, and Ekiti 129.
The new data underscores ongoing efforts needed to strengthen HIV testing, awareness, and treatment programs across the country, particularly in states with high incidence rates.
