The Rivers State Police Command has apprehended two suspects and rescued victims in a major breakthrough against child trafficking.
The suspects, Ugochukwu Onyebuchi and Ogechi Nmezi, were arrested on January 24, 2025, for allegedly defrauding Juliet Blossom and Esther Michael under the guise of facilitating baby adoptions.
Police investigations revealed that the suspects had previously lured Gift Chimanu, the mother of a two-month-old baby girl, and Hope Onyebuchi, the mother of a one-year-old boy, into their scheme.
Authorities believe the suspects conspired with members of a local vigilante group, OSPAC, to carry out the crime. During questioning, the suspects reportedly confessed to their roles and remain in police custody as efforts continue to track down other members of the syndicate.
The rescued children have been reunited with their families. The Rivers State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting vulnerable individuals and eradicating child trafficking in the state.
