The Rivers State Government has expressed deep sorrow over the death of the Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, describing his passing as a monumental loss to Bayelsa and the wider Niger Delta region.
In a condolence message issued on Tuesday, Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, said the sad news of Ewhrudjakpo’s sudden demise resonated beyond Bayelsa State, plunging Rivers and other neighbouring states into collective mourning.
Governor Fubara conveyed his heartfelt sympathies to Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, the government and people of the state, noting that the late deputy governor was a man of exceptional character and dedication to public service.
According to the Rivers governor, Ewhrudjakpo distinguished himself throughout his career with intellectual depth, humility and unwavering commitment to governance, serving as a strong pillar of support to the Bayelsa State administration and a source of hope to the people he represented.
“He was not merely a political figure but a tireless advocate for progress whose contributions will be remembered long after his passing,” Fubara said, adding that the vacuum created by his death reflects the impact he made in public life and in the hearts of those who knew him.
Governor Fubara also extended condolences to the family of the late deputy governor, describing him as a devoted family man and a dependable leader.
He prayed for strength and wisdom for Governor Diri to lead Bayelsa State through the period of grief, while asking God to grant eternal rest to the departed and comfort to his family and the entire people of Bayelsa State.
