Local government workers in Rivers State have raised concerns over the non-payment of their February salaries, marking the first delay since the current administration took office.
Speaking with journalists, the workers expressed uncertainty over the reason for the delay, stating that they have not received any official explanation.
Reacting to the development, the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) in Rivers State, Clifford Paul, clarified that the delay is not unique to the state but affects all 774 local government areas across the country.
He attributed the payment of some state council workers to the governor’s goodwill but assured that the governor has requested workers’ payment records. Paul expressed optimism that salaries would be disbursed before the end of the week.
