The Rivers State Government has honoured outstanding athletes and youth achievers for bringing national and international recognition to the state through sports and pageantry.
Senior Special Adviser on Media, Hector Igbikiowubo, said the event, held at the Government House Banquet Hall, Port Harcourt, was hosted by the state administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas (rtd), who praised the honourees for their resilience and excellence.
Athletes from various disciplines—including wrestling, swimming, boxing, and gymnastics—were celebrated, alongside Rivers Angels Football Club and Miss Africa 2025, Tamunosoye Karibi-George. Special commendation was given to the Super Falcons for their WAFCON win and Team Rivers for securing 199 medals at the National Sports Festival.
Vice Admiral Ibas reaffirmed the state’s commitment to youth empowerment, pledging continued investment in education, sports, and innovation.
Speaking on behalf of the athletes, medalist Cyprian Miracle thanked the government for its support and recognition.
