The Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral (Rtd) Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas, has urged newly inducted members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to uphold high moral and ethical standards during their one-year national service.
Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony of the 2025 Batch B Stream I Corps Members at the NYSC permanent orientation camp in Nonwa-Gbam, Tai Local Government Area, Ibas emphasized the critical role of integrity, trust, and discipline in nation-building.
Represented by the Secretary to the State Government and Chairman of the NYSC State Governing Board, Professor Ibibia Lucky Worika, Ibas encouraged the corps members to align with the administration’s character reformation agenda and contribute positively to the development of their host communities.
He assured the corps members of the state government’s commitment to their welfare and safety, adding that renovation work on camp hostels would soon begin to improve their living conditions.
In his welcome remarks, NYSC Rivers State Coordinator, Mr. Moses Oleghe, described the corps members as the custodians of Nigeria’s hopes and urged them to serve as agents of unity, peace, and economic growth. He noted that their service year offers an opportunity to contribute to national progress while developing personal skills and leadership capacity.
The oath of allegiance was administered by Justice Weli Amadi Chechey on behalf of the Chief Judge of Rivers State. A total of 2,002 corps members—comprising 804 males and 1,198 females—were sworn in.
The ceremony marked the official commencement of the corps members’ deployment to various sectors across the state in fulfillment of their national service obligations.
