The Rivers State Flood Prevention and Management Committee has commenced post-flood intervention efforts to support communities affected by severe flooding in the Orashi Region.
The initiative kicked off on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at the Ahoada East Local Government Council Secretariat, where essential relief items were distributed to 200 households across Aba Odual, Ahoada East, Ahoada West, and Ogba Egbema Ndoni Local Government Areas.
Chairing the event, Deputy Governor of Rivers State and Committee Chairperson, Prof. Ngozi Nma Odu, highlighted the government’s three-phase flood response strategy, emphasizing that the current post-flood phase focuses on agricultural, medical, and financial interventions.
Prof. Odu also announced the provision of fertilizers, farm tools, and medical supplies, including anti-malaria medications, to the affected LGAs through their respective Medical Officers of Health.
To further assist flood-affected households, the state government has allocated N24 million to support 200 families in the region, providing financial relief for rebuilding efforts.
In his remarks, Hon. Chibudom Ezu, Chairman of Ahoada East Local Government Area, commended the state government for standing by the people during the recovery process and fulfilling its promises.
