The Rivers State Government, under the leadership of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, has commenced a comprehensive reconstruction of the Yakubu Gowon Stadium in Elekahia, Port Harcourt.
The project, awarded to Monimichelle Sports Facility Construction Ltd, a top indigenous firm led by sports infrastructure expert Ebi Egbe, aims to bring the stadium up to international standards. .
According to the state government, the full overhaul will cover the playing turf, drainage system, spectator stands, floodlights, and changing rooms, among other key components. The project is scheduled for completion within eight months, after which the stadium will emerge as a modern, secure, and athlete-friendly sports arena.
Governor Fubara’s administration says the initiative underscores its commitment to sports development, youth empowerment, and the revitalization of public infrastructure across the state.
