Retirees of the Rivers State Civil Service will no longer endure long queues to collect gratuity cheques, as payments are now being made directly into their bank accounts, a senior government official has confirmed.
Professor Ibibia Lucky Worika disclosed this on Monday, May 19, 2025, during the opening of a four-day Transformational Leadership Training Workshop for senior civil servants in the state, held in Port Harcourt.
Describing the policy shift as a mark of improved service delivery, Worika commended the current administration’s commitment to reforming the civil service and ensuring dignified treatment of its retirees.
“I saw a post this morning confirming that our retired personnel have started receiving their gratuities and pensions directly in their accounts,” he said. “His Excellency believes it is unacceptable to subject those who served the state all their lives to long, dehumanizing queues just to collect cheques.”
Worika praised the governor’s discipline and dedication to quality governance, adding that the new payment system reflects a broader commitment to efficiency and respect for public servants.
