Rivers State has set aside 10.8 percent of its 2025 budget for the health sector, with major investments earmarked for the Mother and Child Hospital and the Dr. Peter Odili Cancer and Cardiovascular Diagnosis Centre.
The announcement was made by the state’s Administrator, Retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas, during the Rivers State Nutrition 774 Town Hall Stakeholders’ Workshop, where he was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Ibibia Worika.
Professor Worika stated that the budget allocation forms part of a wider strategy to strengthen the state’s health systems, ensure sustainable food production, and enhance community participation in development initiatives. He added that the nutrition programme is a coordinated, community-driven effort aimed at tackling malnutrition across Rivers State.
