Rivers State witnessed a major political shift on Monday, January 5, 2026, as the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr. Benibo Anabraba, formally registered as a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The registration ceremony took place at Ward 1, Unit 1, Bob-Manuel’s Compound in Abonnema, Akuku-Toru Local Government Area. Speaking to supporters after the event, Dr. Anabraba described his move as a strategic step to strengthen the state’s alignment with federal governance.
He stressed that joining the APC would enable him to actively participate in party activities, contribute to internal decision-making, and provide robust political support for Governor Sim Fubara’s “Rivers First” agenda while also advancing President Bola Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope” vision.
“This registration is about identity and purpose. Rivers State and the Federal Government must work in synergy to ensure our people reap the maximum benefits of democracy,” the SSG said.
Dr. Anabraba’s transition followed his formal resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which he described as a “personal decision” taken after careful reflection. He also acknowledged the opportunities and political experience he gained during his time in the PDP.
Notably, Dr. Anabraba’s registration comes a day after Deputy Governor Prof. Ngozi Odu also joined the APC, marking a significant consolidation of the state government’s top leadership within the ruling national party.
