Port Harcourt — The Rivers State Commissioner for Social Welfare and Rehabilitation, Ilamu Arugu, has promised swift action to address the challenges of staff shortages and inadequate operational vehicles within the ministry.
Speaking at the presentation of the ministry’s January 2025 Best Staff Award, Arugu reaffirmed Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s commitment to improving working conditions for social welfare workers across the state.
The highlight of the event was the recognition of Gloria Dickson, a caregiver at the State Children’s Home in Borokiri, who was awarded ₦100,000 for her exceptional service. Arugu noted that Dickson emerged the winner after securing 10 out of 15 nominations from her colleagues following a rigorous evaluation process.
The Commissioner encouraged staff to remain diligent, assuring them that their efforts would be acknowledged and rewarded. He emphasized that the monthly award initiative aims to promote inclusivity by recognizing deserving staff from various care homes and departments.
In response, Gloria Dickson expressed gratitude for the recognition, describing the award as a significant boost to her professional and personal life.
Since its introduction under Arugu’s leadership, the monthly Best Staff Award initiative has honored three outstanding employees, reinforcing the ministry’s mission to enhance staff morale and improve service delivery.
