An official of the Federal Fire Service in Rivers state has been been hospitalized after a mob attack during a fire incident at Okojagu slaughter market in Port Harcourt on Tuesday.
Controller of the Federal Fire Service in the state, Abdullahi Alfa who made this known in a statement said firefighters were attacked by hoodlums immediately they arrived the scene of the fire incident.
According to him, the hoodlums were aggrieved that they arrived late, noting that his men mobilized to the scene immediately they were informed of the incident.
Alfa revealed that firefighters were attacked with stones and machetes, and that the incident prevented them from putting out the fire and taking inventory.
He explained that they were there to compliment efforts of the state fire service, and wondered why officials were attacked for coming to help, adding that they are not responsible for the inferno.
It was gathered that over 15 make shpift houses and goods worth millions were destroyed in the fire allegedly caused by smokers in the area.
